Dan Gibbons - Director of Softball Operations / Head Softball Coach

Dan was born in Chicago, IL and graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, IL.  Dan played varsity basketball and baseball and was nominated to the all-conference & area teams.  He went on to play basketball at Eastern Illinois University following a successful junior college stint.  Dan graduated with a BA in Education & Spanish in 1996.  He learned the game of softball just after high school, participating in the 12" & 16" fastpitch & slowpitch circuits in Chicago & Phoenix for 20+ years.

“Gibby” has been coaching softball for 8 seasons, including recreational, challenge, and travel formats for WCWAA, MARA & the Carolina Lady Red Devils, which he founded with Keith Oberg, in the Summer of 2020.  During their inaugural season, Fall 2020, his 10u Lady Red Devil squad took 1st place in (3) & runner-up in (1) Top Gun Tournaments, finishing with a 19-9 overall record.  He has built the organization from (1) team during the Fall of 2020 to (3) teams, at the 10u & 12u level, heading into the Spring of 2021.  He enjoys bringing out the love of softball in his players, coaches, and families & is a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a research-based training and resource for coaches, parents, athletes and leaders to improve culture and ensure a positive youth development experience for ALL kids through sports. He prides himself on building a “FAMILY” atmosphere within the softball program & carries that culture forward on all softball-related decisions.   Gibby states, “When selecting a player for a competitive travel team, it’s just as important to evaluate the family as it is the player.  We spend so much time together as a group during the Winter months & during the season, we are extremely diligent when assessing the player’s family as we continue to build on the culture of person-athlete development & positive reinforcement on all levels in our organization.  We also assess kids based on what level they can eventually ascend or develop to, not necessarily where they are at the moment.”

Dan holds the title of Director of Softball Operations, which includes responsibilities of building/growing the softball program, coach selection, tournament selection/scheduling & overseeing our softball organization from a high level.  Dan is currently the Vice President at Wheeler Material Handling, where he has been since 2011, as he oversees the Sales, Marketing & Rental departments for the company’s 11 branches in the Southeast.  He came to the Charlotte area from Phoenix, AZ, where he spent 8 years with his wife, Christiane.  The Gibbons' live in Marvin, NC & have (3) girls:  Savannah “Gib” (11), Juliana “Jules” (10) & Alex “Big Al” (5).
